LIFE ATIAS 1st Information Event in Kastoria

 On Friday 31-01-2020, Decentralized Administration of Epirus – Western Macedonia organized an information event on «Addressing the Threat of Invasive Extraneous Species in North Greece, using Early Warning and Information systems for mammals» (LIFE ATIAS -LIFE18 NAT/GR/000430), at the Amphitheater of Kastoria Regional Unit. The event was attended by representatives of all project partners, and members of the local community.

 The meeting was opened by the Associate Professor of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Mr. Dimitrios Bakaloudis, who delivered a greeting, then proceeded to an extensive presentation of the program. Lectures by prominent scientists followed, which raised the public’s interest.

Specifically, issues were raised regarding the impact of invasive alien species on an ecosystem, as well as the implementation of the American Mink Invasion Management Plan in northern Greece. Finally, emphasis was placed on the importance of local community involvement in tackling the issue.

 Then a very interesting and constructive discussion followed, with the audience and speakers exchanging views and suggestions on the subject.
